The climate
at Priest Lake is classified as a transitional type, somewhere
between a northern Pacific coastal type and a continental type.
Summer temperatures are relatively mild (average daily summer maximums
are around 82 degrees). Winter temperatures are also relatively
mild compared to areas east of the Rocky mountains.
Annual precipitation
averages 32 inches at lake level and can reach more than 60 inches
within the mountains surrounding the lake. At elevations above
4,800-feet, snowfall accounts for more than one-half of the total
precipitation.
The weather
patterns at Priest Lake are ideal for outdoor activities. Mild,
sunny days in the summer are the norm. Then, the autumn colors
arrive accompanied by cool, crisp weather. As winter approaches,
the area is transformed into a snow sports wonderland with an abundance
of mountain snow often lasting into late April or even May at snowmobiling
elevations. Priest Lake is, without question, a superb all-season
recreational area with the facilities and weather to bring joy
to any outdoor enthusiast.
